Why we love The Sahara Desert
The dunes of Erg Chebbi, near Merzouga, rise among the highest in Morocco. A night in a luxury desert camp, with dinner under the stars and sunrise on the sand, is the moment most travellers remember for ever.
What to see and do
- A tented suite with a real bed and private bathroom
- Camels or a 4x4 to camp at sunset
- Dinner by candlelight and music by the fire
- Sunrise from the top of a dune
- The Gnawa musicians of Khamlia and a nomad family visit
How to get there
The Sahara is a long but beautiful drive from Marrakech (over the High Atlas and through the valley of the kasbahs) or from Fes (through the Middle Atlas). With a private chauffeur-guide and good stops, the road becomes part of the journey.
How long to stay
Two nights in the desert let you enjoy a full day among the dunes without rushing.
Best time to visit
October to April. Summer days are very hot; desert nights in winter are cold, but camps provide warm bedding.

Ask on WhatsAppAre luxury desert camps comfortable?
Yes. Luxury camps offer tented suites with proper beds, private bathrooms, fine dining and attentive staff, in the middle of the dunes.
Is the Sahara far from Marrakech?
It is a long drive, so most journeys include a night in the Dades valley on the way. Shorter trips can enjoy the Agafay desert, forty minutes from Marrakech, instead.
