Where to stay
Choose between a palace riad in the medina, with a handful of suites around a courtyard, and a grand hotel with gardens and a spa just outside the walls. Many travellers combine both, or end with a night under canvas in the Agafay desert.
How long to stay
Three to four nights is ideal: one day for the medina with a private guide, one for gardens and a hammam, one for the Agafay desert or the Atlas Mountains.
Best time to visit
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most pleasant. Winter days are sunny and mild; summer is hot, so we plan visits early and late in the day.
